WordPerfect Office 12 Installation Tips for IANR

Although you may install WordPerfect Office 12 over previous versions of WordPerfect, Corel recommends that users install WordPerfect 12 as a separate program. DO NOT upgrade previous versions. If you do not have enough disk space to keep your older version and install WordPerfect 12, please see the “Migrating Customized Settings” section before removing the older version.

NOTE: These instructions are applicable to Windows 2000 and XP systems.

Before Installing WordPerfect Office 12

1. Ensure that you have all available Windows Critical updates installed. For Windows XP users, this includes Service Pack 2.

2. Restart your computer and log in as the user with full administrative rights (or an administrator, with full rights).

3. Exit or disable all programs running in memory. Icons for these programs are found in the system tray (right side of the Windows Taskbar). To disable VirusScan, double-click on the VShield icon, click on the Disable button in the dialog box. VirusScan is activated again by doing the same thing, but clicking on the Enable button. To exit or close other programs, right-click on the icon and choose the exit or close option.

Installing WordPerfect Office 12

1. Insert Corel WordPerfect Office 12 Disc 1 in the CD drive. (If the installation wizard does not start automatically, click Start on the Windows taskbar, and click Run. Enter D:\Intro.exe, or D:\WPO12\Setup.exe where D is the letter that corresponds to the CD drive.)

2. Select WordPerfect Office 12 and follow the instructions in the installation wizard. (NOTE: At the “Previous Version Found” screen, select “Install WordPerfect Office 12 and keep older versions of WordPerfect Office” and accept the default folder location.)

3. Update with Service Pack 1 (file size = 23.2MB) and Service Pack 2 (file size = 43.3MB).

  • If you have a live Internet connection, the installation process will check for the update and go the Corel website for the download of the file. Follow the instructions for downloading and installing all Service Packs.
  • If you don’t have a live Internet connection, log on to the Internet. Go to the Corel Support web page (http://www.corel.com/support/) and click on the “Patches & Updates” link in the menu on the left. Then select WordPerfect Office 12. Follow the instructions for downloading and installing Service Pack 1 and 2.

4. At the end of the installation process, it automatically starts the online Registration process. There is no need to register as Academic licenses do not qualify for telephone support.

5. Open WordPerfect and make setting changes in the Tools > Settings dialog box as needed. For example, you may need to change the “Default document location” folder.

Migrating Customized Settings from Previous Versions to WordPerfect 12

The User Word List file (wtXXus.uwl) contains your Spell Checker and QuickCorrect additions. You may replace the WP12 file with a copy of your previous UWL file.

  1. On Windows 2000 or XP systems, the default location of the UWL file is C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Corel User Files. Open the Windows Explorer program and go to this folder.
  2. Copy your current word list file to a temporary location. For example, for WordPerfect 10, copy the wt10us.uwl file.
  3. Next, right-click on the wt12us.uwl file and select Rename. Rename the file to wt12us-orig.uwl.
  4. Copy the wtXXus.uwl file (e.g., wt10us.uwl) from the temporary location to this folder and Rename it wt12us.uwl.
  5. Open WordPerfect. Then go to Tools > QuickCorrect and confirm that your user word list was migrated to WordPerfect 12.

If you have a customized Toolbar and want to migrate the previous version to WordPerfect 12, select the Help > Help Topics menu. (NOTE: The following steps require a live Internet connection.)

  1. In the Help dialog box, click on the Corel Knowledge Base tab.
  2. In the Search text box, enter this document number: 207516. Click on the Search button.
  3. After the Web page displays in your Web browser, click on the document name, “Migrating the default template into WordPerfect®.”
  4. Follow the instructions in the Corel document.

To migrate an Address Book, use the File - Export option inside the Address Book in the previous version of WordPerfect. Then Import that file into the Address Book in WordPerfect 12.

Online User Guide
