Lotus Notes Setting Change for Proper Web Browsing

Whether you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox as your Web browser, you need to make a change in one Lotus Notes setting to make sure that your two programs work together correctly. When you click on a link in an e-mail note you want the correct browser program to open in a separate window.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

It is possible for the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to be opened within the Lotus Notes environment. When this happens the input and save functions within Web forms may not work correctly (e.g., eARFA users cannot enter or save text in text boxes with the editor). To avoid this problem, please follow these instructions to change the browser setting within Lotus Notes.

  1. In the Lotus Notes menu, go to File > Preferences > Location Preferences.
  2. In the Location: Office (Network) screen, click on the Internet Browser tab. The default setting is "Notes" or "Notes with Internet Explorer".
  3. Click on the down-arrow button next to this setting to open the "Select Keywords" dialog box.
  4. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer and click the OK button. Your setting should now match the setting shown in the figure at right.
  5. Click on the Save & Close button to save the setting and return to your e-mail Inbox.

Mozilla Firefox

By default, Lotus Notes offers its own internal Notes browser or the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser for Web usage. However, you can change this to have any other browser open as the default browser when you click on a link. Please follow these instructions to change the browser setting within Lotus Notes.

  4. Select Other. The button with the flashlight will appear (see image at right).
  5. Click on the flashlight button and the "Choose path for Internet Browser" dialog box will open.
  6. Find the program file. Most likely = Local Drive (C:) > Program Files folder > Mozilla Firefox folder > firefox file (look for program icon)
  7. Click on the program name, then click on the Select button. Your setting should now match the setting shown in the figure at right.
  8. Click on the Save & Close button to save the setting and return to your e-mail Inbox.
