Simple File Exchange with DropBox
With the UNL DropBox service offered by Information Services, you can easily exchange files with other UNL employees and students or anyone around the world.
- Easy upload with your browser.
- Easy retrieval with a link in an e-mail message.
- No hassles of blocked e-mails due to large attached files. NOTE: It is preferred e-mail etiquette that you do NOT send file attachments to listservs or other e-mail lists.
You may upload multiple files to share with a person or a group. Each file is limited to 700MB and will stay on the DropBox server for 7 days.
Upload the file
- Open Firefox or Internet Explorer and go to http://is.unl.edu/dropbox/.
- Click on the “Open the UNL File Upload window” link.
- In the UNL DropBox pop-up window, click on the Browse button.
- In the File Upload dialog box, select your file and click on the Open button.
NOTE about file names: A long filename may cause the link text to wrap and not be a working link. For best results use a filename with short to moderate length. (Spaces in a filename are converted to %20.)
- Click the “begin upload” button.
- When the upload is finished, you will receive a confirmation box (see sample below). NOTE: With large files the transfer may take a minute or two.
- Copy the complete text and paste it into the body of your e-mail message.
- You may upload another file by clicking on the “Upload Another” link. Click on the Close link when all file transfers are completed.
Download the file
The person receiving the e-mail message will click on each file link (see sample below) and the Windows Opening... dialog box will open. The file can then be opened or saved to the person’s local computer.
